Playwright Jaber Ramezani and director Aida Keykhaii effectively take their time revealing information about the era and the women's objective. Coach Roya (Banafsheh Taherian) is a strong presence from the start (and Taherian is an endlessly watchable performer), and gradually the personalities of the young swimmers – nervous, tentative Lili (Parya Tahsini), follower Katy (Sarah Saberi) and rebel Nari (Tina Bararian) – emerge.

Swim TeamInspired by real stories from the world of women’s sports in post-revolutionary Iran, Swim Team follows three women who are determined to learn to swim in a place devoid of water. When their coach transforms her small apartment into a training facility, they discover that it can still be tricky to achieve your dreams, even when they’re just in your imagination. Part of the SummerWorks Lab programming – a place for exploration, experimentation, and process. In the Lab, you can experience new works in development from artists exploring new possibilities in performance.
